Gold Strike Goldens

To pick your puppy:

Take each of the puppies you are considering away from the rest of its littermates and observe its reaction to its environment and to you.

Puppies at seven to eight weeks of age should be willing to explore their environment, and although perhaps a little bit cautious at first, they should investigate new objects and be fairly self-assured.

Speak to the puppy and see if it will follow you as you move away.  Roll a ball or other toy to see if it has the instinct to watch, chase, carry, and possibly even return to you with the ball.

See if the puppy exhibits the type of personality you would want to live with.  Perhaps the bold, brash puppy that never stops getting into things would be too much for you, and the easy-going fellow who's agreeable and a bit more receptive to your guidance would be a better choice.

Remember: You are adding a new member to your family for the next 10-15 years.  Now Is Not the Time To Bargain Hunt.  Prepare to spend some money for a well bred puppy.  Do not be in a hurry.  You should read books on the breed and even attend dog shows or obedience trials to talk to Golden owners and breeders and Learn.

Occassionally we have puppies.  You may call or email to inquire about golden retriever puppies.

In February 2008 "Lucky" is expecting show quality golden retriever puppies.  Please email me.  Below "Gunners" pedigree go to the link page to see the complete pedigree of this breeding.

I am excepting deposits now of $200 to hold a puppy for you.  More information and tips on what to look for in a puppy below.

Both "Lucky" and "Gunner" have a pedigree of excellent Champion golden retrievers.  For our puppies we are looking for loving homes with a fenced yard.  Our puppies are socialized around kids and dogs.  The puppies will have current vaccinations at 6 weeks old, vet exam, one worming treatment, health guarantee, copy of parents pedigree.

Our puppies are fed a quality protein food that can be switch if so desired.  Puppies are ready to go home around the 8th or 9th week.  Remember to switch your puppies puppy food for an adult dog food at 6 months old.  It is also best not to take your puppy out to strange places such as a park until they have had all of their shots.  A puppy is not fully protected until all shots have been given to the puppy.

The breeding of Lucky and Gunner was selected to improve the golden retriever breed.  Gunner is very gentle and intelligent.  Many people have commented at shows that Lucky is one of the calmest goldens they have seen.

Gunner's pedigree line includes: CH. Honor's Icon Sound Off;  Am. CH. Sunshine Hill's Nat'l Cowboy OS SDHF;              CH. Citrine's No Whimps Allowed

To see more on Gunner go to "our boy" page.

Lucky's pedigree line includes: CH. Endeavors Ripple in Still Water; Am-Can CH Meadowpond River to the Sea CDX CGC Am-Can Os; and BIS BISS Am-Can CH Rush Hill's Haagen-Dazs CDX JH AX OAJ WCX VCX OS SDHF

Worming:  All puppies have the share of worms.  Our puppies get a worming treatment.  Consider asking your vet for another dose of a good/safe strongid wormer during the course of getting the puppy shots.  That should do it.  Then we usually worm our dogs once a year.

Heartwom:  It is very important to worm your pet.  Prevention is important.  Our dogs get Heartguard plus which contains a treatment for other worms as well.

Puppy shots: Your vet will give them a series of shots to help the puppy 3 more times, at 3 week intervals.  Puppy shots are routine.  When your puppy is 4 to 6 months old your puppy can get a rabies shot.  We have always done the rabies shot at a seperate time from the other puppy shots.  It just helps your puppy.

Neuturing/Spaying: Wait till your puppy is a bit bigger around 6 months.  Golden retrievers seem to have their first heat anywhere from 10 months to 12 months old.

Training:  Wait till you puppy has a complete set of shot before enrolling your puppy in a puppy class.  You can still do basic obedience at home such as sit, come, off (having your puppy not jump on you).  I also start a "do it" comand.  Where the puppy learns to do their business outside and not in the house.

Microchipping:  Avid and Home Again are great.  I recommend them.  Our dogs are microchipped.  Also more animal shelters are using the univeral scanners to help identify lost pets.
